Last Night

[Sent to Moristotle for posting about 15 minutes ago]

The wind has picked up.  We should start moving now.  Our strategy is to find the best wind possible and head for Hawaii!

Last night was awesome, we had another whale sighting.  This one breached in front of us to our right, perpendicular to our course.  I heard the sound of it breaking through the surface and knew it was huge.  Seeing it confirmed just how large it was.  It turned and paralleled our course, breeching several more times. Truly amazing.

On my 1-4am watch we started to see winds over 10 and even over 15.  We were hitting boat speeds in the 8+ range for the first time since the start.  Feeling good!

And we are all related to the whales, and to all other living creatures.

Interesting looking at the Wind/Wave Forecast 20N-70N 115W-135E it would appear that you would not want to dip below 25 deg N to maintain the possibilities for 15 / 20k wind. Anything lower than 25 deg looks to be in the 10k wind range -- at least until 145W. Tiki J and Bequia seem to be in a dead heat at this time – but the J should take the Beneteau 41.1 any day of the week! Push the boat hard. We are betting on you. Bill Batjer

William (Bill), I relayed your comment to Pineapple Girl, in case she didn't see it. Thanks for the analysis, which only adds to the excitement for me. I think, though, that for Pineapple Girl the main excitement is in the wind, the sun, the whales.
"Betting"? Uh, is there a book that I haven't been told about? <smile>

We've never seen a whale other than at Sea World. That's got to be amazing!
