I've been wondering...will you stop blogging here, now that the race is over? I trust that when I calculated the time I thought you'd written each post you sent me, I did so correctly! Occasionally, I add the time difference rather than subtract it. Just yesterday, I told a neighbor in Mebane that it was six hours later in Hawaii (when, of course, it was six hours earlier!)
Your mom and I really enjoyed the events at Kaneohe Yacht Club. Everyone was so nice and friendly. Rubbing elbows with people at the bars, at the food tables, in the audiences was a surpassingly pleasant activity.
I sailed a few times in my early 20s but it wasn't until I moved back to California (having moved away with my family when I was a kid) that I actually LEARNED how to sail. I took a two weekend "basic keelboat" class and I was hooked.
I went to a local yacht club for weeknight beercan races. There I met my husband and we have been boating together ever since.
If you had asked me when I was first learning to sail if I would one day be Commodore of a Yacht Club or sail to Hawaii I probably would have laughed at the idea. I'm proud I made it through my Commodore year (2009) and sailed in the Pacific Cup in 2010!
Now we have a trawler that we cruise in the San Francisco Bay and the Sacramento and San Joaquin River Deltas.

I'm sure you're enjoying Hawaii and Kaneohe. It's beautiful there ... can't wait to see the pictures. Glad you made it safely!
Congratulations on completing the race. Have a great time in Hawai. Looking forward to seeing you all back here in good health. Fred Schreuder
