A CIVILIAN group, interesting! Funny? I first mis-read "aerobatic" as "aerobic," and wondered at the new spectator sport. I'm trying to imagine someone's comfortably poised on his couch munching potato chips and watching someone workout on a treadmill or elliptical machine! I just noticed that your preview doesn't word-wrap (at least not in the Google Chrome browser); my second paragraph (and this one I guess; it's also long) just runs out of the preview box to the right (and beyond)....
I sailed a few times in my early 20s but it wasn't until I moved back to California (having moved away with my family when I was a kid) that I actually LEARNED how to sail. I took a two weekend "basic keelboat" class and I was hooked.
I went to a local yacht club for weeknight beercan races. There I met my husband and we have been boating together ever since.
If you had asked me when I was first learning to sail if I would one day be Commodore of a Yacht Club or sail to Hawaii I probably would have laughed at the idea. I'm proud I made it through my Commodore year (2009) and sailed in the Pacific Cup in 2010!
Now we have a trawler that we cruise in the San Francisco Bay and the Sacramento and San Joaquin River Deltas.

The verb phrase "workout" should have been two words, of course ("work out"). Sorry for the sloppy writing.
